Scala & Kolacny Brothers: News

‘Paper Plane’, Scala’s new album, will be released on 1st October 2008
06.05.2008

Dear fans of Scala,

Nothing is what it seems to be. Indeed, Scala has traded the seeming quietness for the recording studios where it is working at its new album ‘Paper Plane’.

‘Paper Plane’ stands for the light, pure and diaphanous angel voices soaring above Scala’s audience like a paper plane. The lead track itself expresses unconditional faith in life and love.

Scala is evolving ... All the songs for Paper Plane have been written by Steven Kolacny. So the album will feature Scala’s own songs only and no longer covers.
Taking this seemingly obvious step was not easy since Scala is known for its arrangements and covers of international rock and pop hits.
‘Paper Plane’ provides a new dimension to the Scala concept and allows the choir to make a long step forward.

As a matter of fact we hope you will welcome this evolution and go on supporting Scala as you dif before.

‘Paper Plane’ will be released on 1st October 2008. More information will be provided in the following weeks, including the dates of all the Scala concerts.

Compliments of Jonny Greenwood (Radiohead)
16.12.2007

Dear fans of Scala,
namedropping very seldom happens on our own web site, but since the compliment below comes from the Best Band On Earth, we could not but share this information with you all.
Interview in HUMO - 3510/50 (11.12.07): Jonny Greenwood's (Radiohead) reply when asked what he thinks of Scala's version of "Everything In Its Right Place" (It All Leads To This album):

"I do have a CD of Scala at home, but I've never heard this cover before. Very tasteful, orginally performed, it's even moving. Congratulations to the Scala girls!"

New culminating point for Scala in Germany
05.12.2007

Scala invited by José Carreras !

José Carreras (one of the three world-famous tenors with Pavarotti and Placido Domingo) has been seduced by Scala, the Flemish girl choir of the Kolacny brothers.
Carreras has his own show on the German ARD TV chain, viz. the
„José Carreras Gala“. Scala will perform live on 13th December (broadcast from Leipzig). José Carreras has asked Scala to sing one the songs from their latest album (produced by EMI Germany) “One-Winged Angel” but this time with the 80 musicians of a symphony orchestra. Besides, on request of Carreras’ management, the Scala choir girls will sing another song together with the tenor himself.

The José Carreras International Leukaemia Foundation

In 1987, the Spanish tenor José Carreras was told to have leukaemia. Thanks to medical progress he recovered from this disease. The support of family and friends helped him through this difficult time.  Carreras felt there was a debt to be paid and he created the José Carreras International Leukaemia Foundation, the head office of which is in Barcelona (Spain). Later on, two more foundations were created in the USA and Switzerland. In 1995, Carreras founded the German José Carreras Leukamie-Stiftung e.V. with head office in Munich. The Foundations all have a social purpose which Carreras states as follows: “Leukaemia must be curable, always and with everyone.”

Gala

MDR will broadcast this benefit concert live from the Messehalle 1 in Leipzig on the German ARD tv channel. Besides top guest José Carreras, Axel Bulthaupt, a well-known German presentator, will lead the public through the show. Public and artists may expect a varied programme with patients’ emotional testimonies, world stars and distinguished guests. Katie Melua and Herbert Grönemeyer have already confirmed that they will perform.

0110 concerts in Antwerp
04.10.2006

The Scala girls and the Kolacny brothers performed at the 0110 concerts in Antwerp, not against something or someone but FOR someone. They dedicated their miniconcert to Luna and her au-pair friend, two girls whose life was abruptly stopped by an ideology of some kind, who will never be able to enjoy anymore the opportunities of life which the Scala girls will have. After the concert, Steven Kolacny talked with Luna's grandmother and aunt. These 0110 concerts were more than a noble and meaningful initiative.

Adjustment
12.09.2006

We have noticed that our very favourite percussionist David Demeyere has not been mentioned in the credits in the booklet of our new CD.

This certainly will be corrected in future editions and we are apologizing to David who is the man behind the warm bass in 'Gorecki' and 'Station Approach'.

After all ... It All Leads To David!
